Yesterday, at 13:40 hours, a small Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) operated as part of Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) training exercise was diverted due to adverse weather conditions and subsequently crashed in Rutsiro District.
The incident resulted in injuries to three students who were returning home from school. Two of the students are currently receiving medical treatment at Kivumu Health Centre, while the third one was transferred to Murunda Hospital for further care.
In a statement, the Rwanda Defence Force extends its sympathy to the families of the injured children and deeply regrets the distress this incident has caused.
The RDF is working closely with local authorities and medical personnel to ensure the affected children receive the best possible care.
Additionally, the RDF will provide all necessary support to the injured children and their families. (End)
