Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) owners have officially put the franchise up for sale ahead of the Women's Premier League (WPL) and Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 retentions. According to a report by Cricbuzz, the move has been made official.As revealed by Diageo, who currently own RCB's IPL and WPL teams, the sale process has begun. Further, the sale is expected to be completed by March 31, 2026. The revelation of the team being put up for sale was made by Diageo. The UK-based company described the sale as a 'Strategic Review of the Investment Royal Challengers Sports Pvt Ltd (RCSPL),' during their communication with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Wednesday, November 5, 2025."The USL is initiating a strategic review of the investment in its wholly owned subsidiary, RCSPL. RCSPL's business comprises ownership of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise team that participate in the men's Indian Premier League (IPL) and Women's Premier League (WPL) cricket tournaments hosted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) annually," Diageo was quoted as saying."RCSPL has been a valuable and strategic asset for USL. However, it is non-core to our alcobev business. This step reinforces USL's and Diageo's commitment to continue reviewing its India enterprise portfolio to enable sustained delivery of long-term value to all its stakeholders, while keeping RCSPL's best interest in mind," Praveen Someswar, Managing Director and CEO of USL (United Spirits Ltd), stated. In the 2025 season, they beat the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final by six runs to create history.It was a memorable season for them as they finished second after the league stage. In the final, they posted a solid total of 190/9 and then restricted PBKS to 184/7.Meanwhile, their Women's team won the maiden title for the franchise. They triumphed in the WPL 2024 edition and beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by eight wickets in the final. They bowled DC out for just 113 and chased down the total in 19.3 overs.
