Legendary Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who announced his retirement from international cricket on December 18, 2024, and from the cash-rich Indian Premier League on August 27, will play for Team India in the 2025 edition of Hong Kong Sixes. The development was confirmed by Hong Kong Cricket on Thursday, September 18, via a post on Instagram.
Hong Kong Cricket took to the popular photo and video sharing platform to share a post and captioned it, “Legendary Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (@rashwin99) is set to light up Hong Kong! He’ll be a key part of Team India at the @hongkongsixes 2025, happening from 7 to 9 November. Fans will get the rare chance to watch Ashwin’s wizardry in the fastest, most entertaining format of the game. Get ready, Hong Kong—the stage is set for a cricketing spectacle!”

Ashwin played a total of 106 Tests, 116 ODIs and 65 T20Is for Men in Blue from June 2010 to December 2024. During his 14-year-long international career, Ashwin dismissed 537 batters in Tests, 156 in ODIs and 72 in T20Is. In addition to that, he also scored 3503 runs in the five-day format of the game and 707 runs in 63 innings of 116 one-day matches.
Ashwin last played a competitive cricket match on May 20, 2025, in the IPL 2025 for Chennai Super Kings against Rajasthan Royals. In the match played between CSK and RR at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Ashwin picked up 2 wickets for 41 runs in four overs.
In the 2024 edition of Hong Kong Sixes, Robin Uthappa captained Team India, and Kedar Jadhav, Manoj Tiwary, Stuart Binny, Shahbaz Nadeem, Shreevats Goswami and Bharat Chipli were other members of the squad.
Ashwin to play in BBL?
In his retirement post from the IPL, Ashwin mentioned that he will play in various leagues around the world, and it has been reported that Ashwin could feature in the 2025-26 edition of the Big Bash League. It was also reported last month that Ashwin, who is India’s second-highest wicket-taker in Test as well as international cricket, is looking forward to becoming the first Indian cricketer to play in the men’s Hundred competition.
