Ravichandran Ashwin recently retired from all forms of Indian cricket, just months after his international retirement at the end of 2024 during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The legendary Indian spinner also said that he would like to explore opportunities in varous overseas leagues. Now, he is set to create history, as according to reports, he will be the first Indian to play in the Men’s Big Bash in Australia. However, he might have to share the dressing room with a former Pakistan T20I captain. According to a report by Code Sports , Big Bash franchise Sydney Thunder is set to secure the signing of Ravichandran Ashwin for the 2026 edition. He will reportedly join the franchise after his commitments in the ILT20, where he has already egistered himself in the auction. Star Pakistan spinner and ex-interim captain of the side Shadab Khan is also part of Sydney Thunder, and if R Ashwin joins the side, he will share the dressing room with him. The official BCCI rules state that a player who is contracted with the national team or any domestic team, be it the IPL or Ranji Trophy, cannot play in any other overseas league. If this does happen, they would be paying heavy a massive backlash as they would not be elible to play any form of Indian cricket any more. With Ashwin having retired from all forms of Indian cricket, he is now eligible to play all other international leagues, including the BBL.
