Rapist fireman claimed popular holiday destination was 'rape capital of Europe'

A firefighter found of guilty of rape sickeningly once said it was "worth a trip" to Stockholm because it’s the "most unreported rape capital of Europe". Terence Crosbie, 39, was convicted last week of raping a 29-year-old woman during St Patrick's Day celebrations in March 2024, following a five-day trial at Suffolk Superior Court in Boston. The Irishman faces up to 20 years in prison when sentenced today. It has since emerged that Crosbie - writing under the now-deleted X handle “DubKid86” - had previously tweeted: "6ft blondes & most unreported rape capital of Europe sure even if it’s Vigo vs Lyon be worth a trip." Prosecutors applied to have the vile tweet admitted as evidence, but the motion was denied, meaning the jury never heard it, the Irish Mirror reports. As part of their submission, the prosecution wrote: "The evidence is admissible to show the defendant’s motive and intent and is more probative than prejudicial. It is anticipated that if the defendant testifies, he will deny any role in the rape of (INITIAL OF VICTIMS GIVEN) and claim either third-party culprit or fabrication." They continued: “The Commonwealth seeks to cross-examine the defendant about his earlier public Twitter post. In that post, the defendant intimates that travelling to a city with where one can rape with impunity would be 'worth a trip'." However, the post was ruled inadmissible as it was written seven years before the rape and was "not about Boston or the United States". While the ruling stated the tweet referred to Amsterdam, the Irish Mirror understands it was in fact about Stockholm and the 2017 Europa League Final. The ruling read: "The tweet is relevant to defendant’s state of mind as it permits reasonable inference that in 2017, Amsterdam was a place where a tall blonde female would not report a rape. The tweet however is seven years before this incident and is not about Boston or the United States and is not a trip planned with his Boston travelling companion." Further posts on X unearthed by the Irish Mirror/ Irish Daily Star reveal Crosbie’s disturbing state of mind in the months before his arrest. In one tweet, he shared a picture of himself beside a garden fire, dressed in a white robe, puffing a cigar, with a bottle of Red Breast whiskey beside him, captioned: "W****er on a Banker". In another from December 2023, he shared a video of what appears to be a man wrestling a lion, reportedly filmed in the 1930s, writing: "Men in the 1930’s sparring Lions barehanded Men in 2023 looking to get a vagina & be called by a pronoun of their choice." Just days before his arrest, Crosbie had entered a competition run by Dublin Airport to win return flights to Boston. His last post before his X account was deleted was a picture of a pint of Heineken and his passport, captioned "Breaky". Last Friday, Crosbie was found guilty of rape by a jury in Boston after more than 15 hours of deliberations. He was arrested from an Aer Lingus flight just hours after being interviewed by detectives from the Boston Police Department. He had booked a 10.10pm Aer Lingus flight to Dublin on 16 March 2024 - the same day of his interview. His first trial, held in June, ended in a mistrial after jurors deadlocked following more than four days of deliberations. Crosbie's first trial, held last June, ended in a mistrial after the jury deadlocked following more than four days of deliberations. Both the alleged victim and Crosbie took the stand during the five-day trial at Suffolk Superior Court. Crosbie had travelled to Boston with a group of Dublin firefighters for the St Patrick's Day parade. The victim told the court she met Crosbie’s hotel roommate, Liam O’Brien, at the Black Rose pub the night of the attack. She told the jury that they chatted, danced and shared a kiss before returning together to the Omni Parker House hotel. She testified that they had consensual sex and she fell asleep in a separate bed. She said she woke up to find another man, "also with an Irish accent", raping her in the early hours of March 15, 2024. She was certain that her alleged attacker was not O'Brien, telling the court: "I knew it wasn't Liam because he was still asleep." A text she sent in the early hours read: "I woke up and a guy was inside of me telling me how much he knew I wanted it and how pathetic it was his friend couldn't give that." The woman went to Massachusetts General Hospital later that night and reported being raped. Crosbie was removed from an Aer Lingus flight and arrested just hours after being interviewed by Boston Police detectives. He denied all allegations against him, insisting he "absolutely did not" rape the woman. During the trial, DNA analysts testified that Crosbie's DNA could not be identified on any of the swabs collected from the victim's body. Alexis Decesaris, a senior DNA analyst at Bodie Technology, told the court that although they identified two male contributors to DNA found on the accuser, they could not confirm Crosbie as one of them. Video surveillance from the pub, the street, and the hotel was played for the jury during the trial. In closing arguments, prosecutors urged jurors to use 'common sense". "There is no mystery man here. No phantom rapist who slipped off into the night. Terence Crosbie is not the unluckiest man in the world," prosecutors said. "He’s just someone who did a terrible, terrible thing to another person, simply because he wanted to and he thought that he could.”
