Ranveer Singh’s Gesture Made Ammy Virk Realise How Big His Film’s National Award Win Was

When success arrives quietly, it sometimes takes a friend to make you realise how big it truly is. Actor-singer Ammy Virk recently shared a touching behind-the-scenes moment from his 83 shoot in London, revealing how Ranveer Singh’s reaction made his National Award win for Harjeeta even more special. For Punjabi star Ammy Virk, the true weight of winning a National Award only hit him after an unexpected nudge from Bollywood’s livewire, Ranveer Singh. Ammy, who’s currently enjoying the buzz around his latest release Godday Godday Chaa 2, opened up about the unforgettable memory tied to his 2018 sports drama Harjeeta, which bagged two National Film Awards — Best Punjabi Film and Best Child Actor. The actor recalled that he was filming Kabir Khan’s 83 in London when the news broke. Everyone on set was cheering for their co-star Adinath Kothare, whose Marathi film Paani had just won a National Award. “When our film Harjeeta got it, I was shooting for 83 in London. Everyone in one corner was sitting and clapping because one of our friends, Adinath Kothare, had won a National Award for his Marathi film Paani. Ranveer Singh and I were at the pitch in the centre of the ground, and the others were on the side clapping,” Ammy said. Curious, Ammy turned to Ranveer for clarity. “I asked Ranveer what had happened, to which he said, ‘Adi has won a National Award.’ I asked, ‘Is it very big?’ He said, ‘Obviously, it is very big. You don’t know this?’ I then told him, ‘We have also got it. Our film won two — one for the film Harjeeta and the other for our child artist.’ He was surprised and asked, ‘Seriously?’ I said, ‘Yes’.” That’s when Ranveer decided to make it official. “He then took my hand and told Kabir sir that even he has one and that everyone should clap for him too. They said he never told them, to which I replied that I didn’t know it was such a big deal.” The realisation, Ammy said, came right then. “That day, I realised how significant it is — winning a National Award among 140 crore people, you are the only one. You come from a certain region and achieve this recognition.” Calling the honour “sone pe suhaaga,” Ammy added that a National Award feels different from any other because “it’s the main thing.” As Godday Godday Chaa 2 brings him back with director Vijay Kumar Arora, Ammy is once again part of a film that celebrates Punjabi culture with warmth, wit and strong women at its heart
