Port of Spain—The feature match on Friday’s opening night of the Trinidad and Tobago Premier Football League was cancelled due to what the local organisation described as an “unexpected restriction on airspace operations,” while Miscellaneous Police FC blanked San Juan Jabloteh 4-0 to become the season’s first winners. Striker Kwesi Allen (fourth and 35th minutes) opened the season with a first-half brace, and fellow striker Mickaeel Jem Gordon (43rd) also found the net, giving the Lawmen a 3-0 lead at half-time. Veteran midfielder Joevin Jones added a fourth goal in the 69th minute. Meanwhile, Rangers never reached the sister isle for the second match scheduled at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago. The TTPFL provided the following explanation: “The Trinidad and Tobago Premier Football Leagues wishes to advise that due to an unexpected restriction on airspace operations, there were significant delays to flights, impacting team travel schedules and logistical arrangements for our clubs today. “The flight situation resulted in the cancellation of the FC Phoenix and the Terminix La Horquetta Rangers match that was scheduled to be played at the Dwight Yorke Stadium on Friday night. “This situation was entirely beyond our control; classified as a case of force majeure in the TTPFL T1 Regulations 2025/2026 and could not have been reasonably anticipated or avoided.” The League added via media release: “Nevertheless, the patience, professionalism, and collective commitment ensured that the League’s opening fixture between San Juan Jabloteh and Miscellaneous Police could be played as planned. The conduct of the respective clubs under such circumstances reflects not only the resilience of the respective organisations but also the unity and shared purpose that continue to strengthen our football ecosystem. “We extend heartfelt thanks to the clubs’ management and operations teams for their swift adjustments, to the players and staff for maintaining focus and discipline amid uncertainty, and to the officials who upheld the integrity of the season opener despite logistical strain.” The League will announce a new date for the Rangers vs. FC Phoenix encounter in due course. “Please be assured that, pending any repeat of such an exceptional occurrence, inter-island travel arrangements will continue to operate as smoothly and efficiently as they did throughout last season. “The League remains committed to working closely with our travel partners and relevant authorities to safeguard the comfort and reliability of all logistical operations.” MISCELLANEOUS POLICE FC: 1.
