Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh jets in to take 'full control' of crisis at Ibrox

Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh is reportedly set to fly into Glasgow from the USA to take “full control” of the escalating crisis at Ibrox. Manager Russell Martin is facing significant pressure just weeks into his tenure following a winless start to the Premiership season that has left the club in tenth place. Saturday’s defeat to Hearts was the last straw for some supporters who vented their anger at the manager, while fan group the Union Bears are planning a new protest before the Premier Sports Cup match against Hibs, reports the Daily Record . This comes after the Rangers fan advisory board “forcibly challenged” Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell over their call to support the manager amidst a poor start. However, Cavenagh – who owns the Glasgow giants alongside 49ers Enterprises – is prepared to confront the disgruntled fans head on when he arrives in Scotland. He plans to attend the cup match against David Gray’s team, where he will encounter the angry protest outside the stadium. The Scottish Sun reports that the boss will take “full control” of the worsening situation, having previously offered support to Martin behind closed doors. If the disappointing start to the season continues with an exit from the Premier Sports Cup, it could challenge one of the 49ers’ golden rules they have implemented at Leeds United. Amid rumours about Daniel Farke’s long-term future, Paraag Marathe maintained a vow of silence as he let the action unfold on the pitch. After securing the English Championship crown, the 49ers Enterprises president declared: “I do have something to say and, and you know, I am someone who will speak when I have something to say and and when I feel like it’s the right time for me. “I’m not one to respond because some random gossip paper wants to say something. I’m not going to make comments based on rumours and gossip.” However, a loss to Hibs might compel the American ownership or Cavenagh to make their stance on Martin public – either way.
