Rangers belief surges into overdrive as Connor Barron ‘massively confident’ of beating Celtic

Connor Barron says Rangers are ‘massively confident’ of beating Celtic at Hampden on Sunday. The Ibrox side have a new-found belief after winning two Premiership games on the bounce under boss Danny Rohl . Rangers picked up victories over Kilmarnock and Hib s to take them up to third in the Scottish Premiership. And Barron - who is suspended for the Premier Sports Cup semi-final - says they’re now ready to see off their Old Firm rivals. The midfielder - who was outstanding in the 1-0 win over Hibs on Wednesday night - admits the squad is in a far better place under German gaffer Rohl. And Barron is convinced his team-mates can beat Celtic this weekend and take a huge step towards the first silverware of the season. When asked how confident he was of Gers getting a result on Sunday, the 23-year-old said: “Of course, we’re massively confident. "We’ve had back to back wins so we need to go again. “There’s a good feeling in the dressing room now, so we just have to continue with that. “Do we feel in a better place? Definitely. “We’re not getting too carried away with ourselves, we know what we need to do. “We will recover from Wednesday and get ready for the weekend.” Barron refused to reveal details of how Rohl has lifted the Rangers dressing-room since he took over. After a disastrous start to the campaign under ex-boss Russell Martin, the German has put smiles back on faces again. Barron can feel momentum building at Ibrox and says they’re excited about taking on Martin O’Neill’s Celtic. He said: “He (Rohl) has managed really well. “After Kilmarnock, we just wanted to go into the Hibs game, get another three points and build a bit of momentum. “We’ve done that so it’s a happy camp and we’re all buzzing going forward into the weekend. “A lot of things stay in-house but there’s a real lift in the dressing-room. “It’s positive here and it’s important that we keep building it week on week, picking up as many points as we can. “Winning always helps with everything.” Barron’s man-of-the-match display at Easter Road was almost spoiled when he gave away a penalty late on. But keeper Jack Butland came to his rescue as he saved Jamie McGrath’s spot kick to deny Hibs. Barron hailed the English stopper’s mentality as he recovered from a mistake against Killie to earn Rangers three points in Leith. He said: “It was a great team performance on Wednesday night. “We have Jack to thank, he always comes up with the big moments. We needed him and he stepped up. “He showed great character and we have a lot of that in the dressing-room. “He’s done it a lot here and I owe him one for that. “Things happen in the game and obviously I was gutted (to give penalty away) but you have to change your thinking really quickly. “You just had to hope Jack steps up and he did. “It’s about how you bounce back, you can’t think too much into it. “We showed both sides of the game against Hibs. “We attacked well and also had a real gritty side to us, which was nice to see because it’s not always going to be pretty in the league. “It was just nice to come away with a good feeling."
