Randy Pitchford Says ‘Get a Refund from Steam’ If You Aren’t Happy with Borderlands 4

Randy Pitchford has responded to criticism of Borderlands 4’s performance by asking the player to get a refund on Steam if they are unhappy with it.

Borderlands 4 has been dealing with performance issues since its launch, with many dubbing the game ‘Stutterlands 4′. Pitchford has already snapped back at some players, stating, “Code your own engine and show us how it’s done, please.” Now, in a new response, the Gearbox CEO has asked players to get a refund on Steam for BL4 if they aren’t happy with it.

Gearbox CEO Ask Players to Get a Refund on Steam for Borderlands 4

Spotted by GamesRadar+, Randy Pitchford mentioned getting a refund on Steam for Borderlands 4 during a recent reply on X (formerly Twitter). The BL4 boss has been vocal on social media platforms recently, addressing the issues the game is facing. In a recent post, Pitchford stated, “Every PC gamer must accept the reality of the relationship between their hardware and what the software they are running is doing.”

A player responded to the comment, stating that there are games that look and play better than Borderlands 4, adding that it’s not running at 30 FPS on minimum specs and barely reaches that point on recommended specs. Pitchford responded, stating that minimum specifications “absolutely plays at 30fps” and recommended plays at 60fps. Players with “good systems and good tuning” can achieve even higher results. Pitchford also offered to help with the tuning if the player required it.

The player responded again, stating that it took him days to get Borderlands 4 to a tolerable state, and even with their best setup, the game provides poor performance unless the player concedes “delayed inputs”. The player also spoke about how they “don’t enjoy being told to or having to use DLSS (or things like it) and frame generation.” They concluded, stating, “Would you be happy buying a vehicle and finding out the only way you can go 60 miles per hour is by wearing drunk goggles.”

Pitchford Says You ‘Should Play a Different Game’ If You Don’t Want to Use DLSS or Other Frame Generation Tools

Pitchford clapped back, stating that the player can do whatever they want and “the game is the game.” “Please get a refund from Steam if you aren’t happy with it,” the Gearbox CEO added. He also spoke about the car analogy, stating that players can’t put a Ferrari Engine in a monster truck and expect it to drive like a Ferrari. He didn’t stop there, adding that if they don’t like being told to use DLSS, don’t want to use tools to improve the framerate, and aren’t happy with the framerate they have, then they “should play a different game.”

The CEO concluded, stating that the game is “designed to be just fine of an experience at 30fps and feel great at 60fps.” Players also have the option to make trade-offs between frame rate, resolution, and graphics features, which encourages them to use tools that optimize the game to their liking.
