Rambaran earns national call-up

Former Under-19 all-rounder Andrew Rambaran continues to make strides in his cricketing journey, earning a place on Trinidad and Tobago’s squad for the upcoming Bolivarian Games even as he keeps his sights firmly set on breaking into the Red Force senior team. Rambaran, who led the Soca Strikers to the TTCB 50-Over Cup title earlier this month, said his main focus is consistent performances that will help him take the next step in his career. “Obviously, I would love to play for Red Force in all the different tournaments,” Rambaran said. “I just want to have consistent performances, and hopefully one good tournament could get me into the team.” Rambaran was one of the standout players in this year’s 50-Over Cup, hitting two half-centuries and contributing key wickets along the way. He also relished the experience of captaining Strikers, describing it as a valuable opportunity to learn and grow. “Captaining the guys was a good experience,” he explained. “It helped me understand the strategies and decision-making side of the game a lot more. I definitely learned a lot and I hope to keep improving.” The Strikers’ title run featured strong all-round performances, with senior players Terrance Hinds and Isaiah Rajah providing steady guidance. Hinds took four for 29 in the final to help bowl out the Warriors for just 89, while Cephas Cooper (87, 30 not out), Rambaran (63, 65, 2-37), and Abdul Raheem Toppin (5-34, 2-32) all made vital contributions. “The senior guys were a big help,” said Rambaran. “Their experience really guided us through the tournament and helped us perform at our best.” Rambaran’s recent form has not gone unnoticed. His selection to the T&T team for the Bolivarian Games, a multi-sport event that coincides with the CG United Super50 Cup, marks another major milestone. Although the scheduling conflict means he will miss the Super50, Rambaran views his national call-up as an important step in his development. “Any time you get to represent your country, it’s a big honour,” he said. “I just want to stay consistent, keep learning, and make the most of every opportunity.” Red Force head coach Rayad Emrit praised the performances of young players like Rambaran, saying the TTCB competition continues to serve its purpose in identifying emerging talent. “The youngsters have been very impressive, and hopefully they can continue that trend,” Emrit said. “It’s going to be competitive for spots, but that’s a good thing—it means players are pushing each other to perform.” For Rambaran, that competition is exactly the kind of motivation he thrives on. “I’m just staying focused and working hard,” he said. “Anything is possible once you keep performing.”
