Ramaphosa to champion multilateralism, conflict resolution at UNGA

President Cyril Ramaphosa is leading the South African delegation to the High-Level segment of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Ramaphosa, who arrived in New York last night, is expected to champion global solutions and UN Reform at the organisation’s 80th session.

Over 100 heads of state and government are expected to attend this year’s high-level meeting from 23 to 29 September 2025, under the theme “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights”.

President Ramaphosa will participate in a two-state solution conference later Monday after a number of Western countries indicated their formal recognition of a Palestinian state, including Canada, the UK, Australia and Portugal, with more set to follow.

The President will address the General Debate on Tuesday, where he’s expected to champion multilateralism and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

He will then engage in a discussion at the Council on Foreign Relations on domestic and foreign policy, attend a heads-of-delegation reception hosted by President Donald Trump, participate in bilaterals with US business leaders, and join an executive dialogue hosted by the US Chamber of Commerce, before closing out the week with a G20 Ministerial meeting to build momentum towards the Leaders’ Summit in November in Johannesburg.
