President Cyril Ramaphosa met with Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter in Bern on Wednesday. The two leaders face similar challenges after the United States of America imposed hefty sanctions on many countries. Ramaphosa’s visit to Switzerland is aimed at strengthening political, economic and social ties. South Africa has embarked on a massive campaign to try and strengthen trade relations with other countries. Pretoria is looking for mutually beneficial co-operation with other countries, skill development and science and innovation will be another area of focus during President Ramaphosa’s engagement with the Swiss. The two leaders delivered their addresses at an official welcome ceremony marking the start of Ramaphosa’s state visit to Switzerland. In his remarks, President Ramaphosa has commended Switzerland for its continued support of South Africa’s inclusive growth and development, especially at a time when the world faces major economic and social challenges. He highlights Switzerland as one of South Africa’s key trade partners.
