Rahul Dravid Up For Grabs: These Three IPL Teams Eye Him As Head Coach

Rahul Dravid has stepped down as head coach of Rajasthan Royals, just a year after taking charge, leaving the franchise scrambling for a replacement ahead of IPL 2026.
Dravid, who recently led India to T20 World Cup glory, had been a T20 World Cup-winning coach. His exit from Rajasthan Royals has sparked interest from several other franchises.
Here are three teams vying for Rahul Dravid’s expertise:
1. Kolkata Knight Riders
Apart from Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders are currently without a head coach. After Chandrakant Pandit failed to defend the title in 2025 and reportedly faced discontent from players, he was removed from his position. As the three-time champions look for a new head coach, Dravid’s name stands out as a prime candidate.
2. Lucknow Super Giants
Since Justin Langer took charge of Lucknow Super Giants two years ago, the team has struggled to reach the playoffs. Despite owner Sanjiv Goenka’s appointment of Zaheer Khan as the team’s mentor ahead of IPL 2025, the team couldn’t turn their fortunes. With Dravid now available, the Lucknow franchise might attempt to sign him, though this seems improbable.
3. Delhi Capitals
Rahul Dravid has previous experience with Delhi Capitals, having served as their mentor during the 2016 season. Current head coach Hemang Badani, lacking substantial experience, couldn’t lead the team to the playoffs in 2025 after a promising start with Dravid. This could prompt Delhi Capitals to consider bringing Dravid back into their fold.
