Rachel Chinouriri issues scathing reply to trolls calling her a ‘man’ for attending Glamour awards

Indie pop musician Rachel Chinouriri has condemned “intellectually stunted” anti-trans trolls after she was called “a man” for attending Glamour UK’s Women of the Year awards. The two-time BRIT Award nominee and “All I Ever Asked” singer, 26, attended the magazine’s annual award ceremony in London on 30 October, wearing a matching black bra and sheer skirt combo. The magazine’s X account posted a slow-mo video of the singer posing on the red carpet, and winking at the camera. A horde of social media trolls flocked to the comment section to claim that Chinouriri, who is cisgender, is “a man mocking women”. The flurry of false and discriminatory comments were likely a continuation of backlash against Glamour UK after it honoured nine British trans women – collectively dubbed “The Dolls” – as one of its 2025 Women of the Year recipients. “I believe that trans women are women full stop” In a scathing response posted to her own X account, Chinouriri took aim at the “losers” making anti-trans remarks and said it was her “duty” to speak out for trans women. “As a woman, I would like to remind anyone that is in the community I have built that I believe that trans women are women full stop and you cannot change my mind,” she began. I’d be jealous too if I didn’t possess the range.” She rounded off: “Anyways… time to mute, you can argue amongst yourselves if you’re just that much of a loser or maybe keep scrolling and not waste your life on peoples business that don’t concern you (and also of people you don’t know in real life).” Asked by a fan why the trolls were referring to her as a man, Chinouriri replied: “Because I attended an event where trans women were present so now everyone a man.” In a follow up post, the musician – who has collaborated with other artists including Cat Burns and Rizzle Kicks – wrote: “Protect the dolls”. Fans of the singer flocked to her defence, with one pointing out that anti-trans trolls “always come for Black women first”. “The ‘we can always tell’ crowd really showing off their skills with this one lmfaooo,” another quipped. Last week, the Condé Nast-owned publication was criticised by ‘gender-critical’ feminists for honouring the group of trans women with its Women of the Year accolade. Notable British trans women including model Munroe Bergdorf, Heartstopper star Bel Priestley, Not A Phase founder Dani St James, and author Shon Faye were among those honoured by the magazine. In response, Harry Potter author JK Rowling condemned the publication for what she deemed to be telling “girls that men are better women than they are”. “I grew up in an era when mainstream women’s magazines told girls they needed to be thinner and prettier. Now mainstream women’s magazines tell girls that men are better women than they are,” she wrote on X. Glamour UK responded to Rowling’s post with a brutal five-word takedown. “Better luck next year Jo x,” wrote the admin of the magazine’s X account. Alongside “The Dolls”, Glamour’s 2025 Women of the Year awards celebrated women including musicians Tyla and Sugababes, actresses Rachel Zegler and Demi Moore, and model and actress Adwoa Aboah.
