Dale Earnhardt Jr., famed professional race car driver and NASCAR Hall of Famer, was spotted having a few drinks around happy hour in downtown Charleston on the evening of Oct. 14.
Several people saw Earnhardt Jr. drinking a few beverages at Recovery Room Tavern and Frontier Lounge, according to Facebook page Chucktown F&B Collective, which features more than 25,000 members. A few got photos with him, dressed in a button-up shirt and grabbing drinks with his wife, including Matthew Lane, who is the general manager at Bangkok Lounge, a sister bar to Rec Room.
“He was just hanging out with his wife having a few beers,” Lane told The Post and Courier. ‘They were both very nice and genuine. He let me take a pic with him and told me he bought a house here years ago and they love it.”
According to others in the group, Earnhardt Jr. has been seen at various locations around Charleston since buying a house on Sullivan’s Island. These include Art’s in Mount Pleasant, Poe’s Tavern on Sullivan’s and Water’s Edge at Shem Creek.
The now 51-year-old is a third-generation race car driver, following in the footsteps of his namesake, Dale Earnhardt Sr., who was a seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion. Jr. himself won 26 races in the NASCAR Cup Series, including two Daytona 500s. He also won the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship back-to-back in 1998 and 1999.
He became a commentator for NASCAR when he retired from driving full-time in 2018. And he’s since become a broadcaster for Amazon Prime Video and TNT Sports. He also has a podcast called “The Dale Jr. Download.”
His wife is Amy Reimann, an interior designer and former college cheerleader who met Earnhardt Jr. when she was hired to design the inside of his home just outside of Charlotte, N.C. back in 2009.
Earnhardt Jr. isn’t the only celebrity to reportedly own a home on Sullivan’s Island. So does Stephen Colbert, Danny McBride, Bill Murray and Reese Witherspoon.
