Quantum tech, bioengineering to be next frontier of innovation: Nurix AI's Mukesh Bansal

Quantum technologies and bioengineering could be the next major forces in deep tech, according to Mukesh Bansal, Founder and CEO, . “If not AI, the next deeptech waves I would bet on are quantum technologies and biotech. Quantum works very differently at a fundamental level and opens possibilities we can’t even imagine yet. Bioengineering is also making strong progress. Over the next two to three decades, alongside AI, these fields could profoundly reshape our lives and the planet,” he said. Speaking at TechSparks 2025, Bansal reflected on what drives innovation in these cutting-edge areas. “Much of deeptech is driven by intrinsic motivation and curiosity. Take , for example. While everyone talks about it today, I bet 99% of people here hadn’t even heard of it back in 2020, even though it was founded in 2015.” He cautioned against expecting instant results. “I’m not overly optimistic about the next five years, but if we plant the right seeds now and nurture them, by the 2030s we could see significant growth in deeptech startups.” Bansal also shared insights from his personal journey. “For the past two years, I’ve been deeply immersed in studying physics. Much of deeptech ultimately connects to fundamental physics, and this has become the primary focus of my reading.” On longevity, a field he has explored since 2005, he added a note of caution: “Science on longevity is still very early-stage. Beyond sleep, fasting, meditation, and emotional health, there’s limited validated knowledge. Claims of humans living 150 or 200 years are speculative, but it’s a fascinating area to watch.”
