This week, Qualcomm has made a major announcement of upcoming AI products it will use to compete more directly with AMD, NVIDIA, and other AI-focused tech companies. The new AI200 and AI250 accelerator chips and racks are meant to push a new level of power on the company’s hardware that should be available to customers in 2026 (AI200) and 2027 (AI250). Qualcomm announced its upcoming AI200 and AI250 chips in a press release on its website this week. According to the company, the two chip stacks and racks represent an upgraded scale of AI computing power in Qualcomm technology. While the AI200 will be the first offering of this new era in 2026, the AI250 is meant to innovate upon even the 200 to achieve a major leap in compute capacity and efficiency, as shared below: Meet Qualcomm AI200 and Qualcomm AI250—rack-scale inference solutions built for the #AI era. Its chips have most notably been inside of hardware like the Meta Quest 3, but the company also engages in a variety of other endeavors, such as its deal with BMW to make a new automated driving system. With NVIDIA and AMD already well out ahead in the AI chip market, Qualcomm has a lot to do to catch up, but the AI200 and AI250 chips and racks sound like the steps to narrow the gap a bit.
