‘Quaint’ Black Country village with Victoria villas and outdoor pool that’s the ‘best place to live’

A ‘quaint’ village near Wolverhampton has been named the ‘best place to live’ in the Black Country. Tettenhall has been rated number two in the West Midlands, according to lifestyle website Muddy Stilettos , which publishes an annual guide to the top places to live in the UK, based on house prices, schools, community events, places to eat and shop, and commutability. Unusually, this pretty suburb is home to a pretty pool where families enjoy free swimming outdoors in the summer months. Read more: Village with ‘gorgeous’ homes and outstanding school named West Midlands best place to live Read next: Birmingham Christmas 2025 events you’ll want to book tickets for now A spokesman for Muddy Stilettos said: “This quaint village outside Wolverhampton is home to some pretty coloured Victorian villas and terraced houses along with a historic clock tower. “There’s a thriving, bustling high street, community outdoor pool and plenty of great school options nearby.” The village centre boasts some lovely independent shops such as The Decorium boutique, Hugs & Kisses gifts, Baked in Tettenhall bakery and Robinsons deli. Local favourite Gluttons for Nourishment is the place to go for morning coffee and a pastry, then there’s Italian Fiume or Atelier Del Cibo for dinner, where you can eat alfresco in the summer months, and Seats bistro is known for Sunday roasts. There are two outstanding schools and it’s home to Tettenhall College, a co-ed day and boarding school that sits in 33 acres of lush ancient woodland and grounds and hosts a Bonfire Night event every year. The village also has its own wellness centre called Little Earth that offers yoga, holistic therapies and retreats and the prestigious Wolverhampton Golf Club is right on your doorstep. Being a village, there’s an annual summer fete and regular food and drink festivals. Tettenhall Wood and Smestow Valley Nature Reserve offers lovely walks and cycle trails. It’s also close to Wolverhampton Grand Theatre and The Halls for live music. House prices here average at £349,934, according to Muddy Stilettos, which says most detached homes sell for around £513,235 and semis for around £278,462. Tettenhall is an easy bus ride into Wolverhampton city centre where you can catch a train to Birmingham in just 20 minutes and to London in around two hours.
