Chamber Classics: Recital with Chamber Music Quad Cities
Chamber Music Quad Cities will open their new season from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12.
The concert includes three short recitals. First, cellist Gregory Sauer and pianist Thomas Sauer will perform “Variations on a Slovak Theme” by Bohuslav Martinů and “Klid” by Antonin Dvořák. Then, Thomas Sauer will perform pieces by Mozart and Chopin. The concert concludes with Beethoven’s “Kreutzer” Sonata, performed by violinist Grace Park.
The concert will be held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 121 W. 12th St., Davenport.
Admission is $20 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets can be bought at eventbrite.com.
On a Budget: Back from the Dead in Rock Island
Those seeking a Halloween thrill should head to downtown Rock Island for Back from the Dead, a two-day haunted experience.
The celebration includes 14 events at venues across downtown Rock Island. Saturday events include a “BOOtique Shopping Bash” at Brick and Motor Boutique, a Halloween Sidewalk Sale outside Mellow Blue Planet, a costume contest at Rock Island Ale House and “Theatre at the Macabre” at Skellington Manor Event Center.
Sunday events include Pumpkin Pilates at Refined Fit Lab, the Rock Island Artists’ Market at Skeleton Key Art & Antiques, a Gangsters & Ghosts Tour and Shock House Haunted House at QCCA Expo Center.
Most events are free, but some events require admission fees. Details on specific events can be found at downtownrockisland.org/yearly-events.
On a Date: Voces y Visiones Gallery Opening
Quad City Arts, 1715 Second Ave., Rock Island, is opening their latest exhibit, Voces y Visiones: A Celebration of Hispanic Art. The exhibit, in collaboration with Mercado on Fifth, features 19 artists from the Quad-Cities region.
From 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, the gallery will host a free, casual gallery opening for Voces y Visiones. Artists will attend the opening, and refreshments will be served. Musicians Troy Rangel and Tony Ramirez will perform.
The exhibit will be on display through late December.
With the Family: 2nd Saturdays on 2nd Ave.
The Rock Island Downtown Alliance is hosting the final 2nd Saturdays on 2nd Ave. event for 2025 this weekend. The event series, which began this spring, pairs live music, games and fitness programming with the weekly QC Farmers’ Market, located at Second Avenue and 18th Street in Rock Island.
Saturday begins with a yoga session by Refined Fit Lab at 8 a.m. Advanced reservations can be be made at refinedfitlab.com.
From 8 a.m. to noon, Huckleberry’s Pizza will host a pop-up tent. Absolute Science will have a bubble station available. Games include face painting, bags, giant chess, giant Connect 4 and extra-large Tetris. Moline musician Gunner Eberhard will perform.
Dine and Drink: Eudell’s Old-Fashioned BBQ & Booksale
The Rock Island Public Library Foundation is hosting “BBQ & Booksale” in Arts Alley and The Iconic Event & Reception Venue, 1725 Second Ave., from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11. The Rock Island Library will host a used book sale, and will offer games, a raffle and live music. Proceeds go to the Lorene Evans Watts Children’s Book Fund.
Eudell Watts III of Old Arthur’s Barbecue Sauce will serve food. He is the great-grandson of Arthur Watts, who worked on cooking fires from age 6 to 27 while enslaved, before he was freed by the Emancipation Proclamation. These recipes form the basis of Old Arthur’s Barbecue Sauce. The Chicago-based barbeque company has won several awards from the National Barbecue & Grilling Association, most recently in 2023.
Admission is $50, and includes BBQ and sides, and a complimentary beer and soda. Tickets can be bought at eventbrite.com.
