The PWHL announced the return of its Takeover Tour for the league’s third season, featuring 16 neutral-site games in 11 cities across the United States and Canada. The Fleet will play three games as part of the series: Jan. 3 against Vancouver at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena; Jan. 11 vs. Ottawa at the Scotiabank Center in Halifax, Nova Scotia; and April 7 against Vancouver at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta. The slate of neutral-site games was a hit across the first two seasons, and last season’s tour drew 123,601 fans across nine games played at NHL arenas and other large-capacity venues. “Season 2’s PWHL Takeover Tour was the first of its kind, giving fans across North America the chance to experience the excitement of a regular-season game in their home venues,” PWHL executive vice president of business operations Amy Scheer said in a release. “The passion and support from fans, and the enthusiasm from cities eager to engage with our league, have fueled our ambition to grow the tour for Season 3.” Detroit has been a particularly hot venue for the league over the past two years. In the PWHL’s first season, Little Caesars Arena hosted a game between Ottawa and Boston that set the US professional women’s hockey attendance record with 13,736. The league then reset that record in March, as 14,288 fans watched New York beat Minnesota. Montreal, New York, and Vancouver will each play five Takeover Tour games, followed by four for Ottawa and Seattle, and three games for Boston, Minnesota, and Toronto. Tickets for the Takeover Tour will be available starting with presales beginning Thursday, followed by the general sale on Friday at 10 a.m. in host markets.
