The PWHL’s expansion teams, set to begin play this month as the league’s seventh and eighth franchises, will be called the Seattle Torrent and Vancouver Goldeneyes. The the league announced each team’s name and logo Thursday, saying they were “developed to reflect the pride, culture, and energy of their homes, while connecting to the broader identity of the PWHL.” The Torrent symbolizes Washington’s waterways and “the team’s determination to carve its own path,” according to the release. Its primary colors are slate green, shadow blue, and glacier blue. The Goldeneyes are named for the Common Goldeneye, a bird native to Vancouver known for its speed, strength, and precision in flight. Their colors are Pacific blue, coastal cream, and earthy bronze. “I’m so excited for friends, family and fans to learn that we’re officially the Seattle Torrent, and to be a part of it,” Seattle forward Hilary Knight, a former member of the Boston Fleet, said in the release. “Whenever you’re looking at the culture of a group, you want it to be a really strong room — and to pair that with an incredible city with a storied sports legacy and a brand new identity that speaks to all of that, it’s a great recipe for us.” Despite the name and brand announcements, Seattle and Vancouver will play their inaugural season wearing jerseys without logos, instead featuring the city names stitched diagonally across the chest — similar to the ones worn by the Original Six teams in the league’s inaugural season. Advertisement The league previously announced that the team names and logos will be “incorporated into on-ice uniforms for the 2026-27 season.” The PWHL season begins with a two-game slate on Nov. 21: Two-time reigning champion Minnesota will take on Toronto at 7 p.m. ET; Seattle and Vancouver will face off at 10 p.m. ET. The Boston Fleet will open the season on Nov. 23 at 1 p.m. when they take on Montreal at Lowell’s Tsongas Center. Emma Healy can be reached at emma.healy@globe.com or on X @ByEmmaHealy.
