PWD to extend Munak Canal road to Kashmere Gate

Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh on Saturday said his department is planning to extend the Munak Canal elevated road up to Kashmere Gate to ease traffic and boost Delhi-Haryana connectivity. The extension includes building a 4-km tunnel between Inderlok and Kashmere Gate ISBT in north-west Delhi. Mr. Singh said the project will create a continuous, signal-free corridor from the Delhi-Haryana border to central Delhi, with direct links to ISBT, Outer Ring Road, and Wazirabad corridor. An official statement said the project will significantly reduce travel time for vehicles coming from Sonipat, Rohtak, and the Urban Extension Road (UER) while easing bottlenecks at Mukarba Chowk, Azadpur, and Roshanara Road. “Delhi needs futuristic and innovative solutions that cater to the growing infrastructural needs. We are moving away from the past practice of short-term patchworks. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, we are focusing on long-term, high-impact projects that will serve Delhi for decades to come,” said Mr. Singh. Cut travel time According to preliminary estimates, the corridor could reduce travel time between the Delhi-Haryana border and Kashmere Gate by up to 40%, and will also help redistribute traffic away from arterial roads and improve road safety, the Minister added.
