India’s two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu crashed out of the Hong Kong Open Super 500 on Wednesday after losing a hard-fought match to Denmark’s Line Christophersen in the women’s singles round of 32.
Sindhu, ranked 15th in the world, had a perfect 5-0 head-to-head record against Christophersen coming into the clash.
However, the 25-year-old Dane produced one of her best performances on tour to register her first win over the Indian star, triumphing 15-21, 21-16, 21-19 in just under an hour.

Setback in a Season of Mixed Fortunes
The defeat is a setback for Sindhu, who has been working to rebuild her rhythm after a series of early exits earlier this year at the Swiss Open and Japan Open.
Her quarterfinal run at the BWF World Championships last month had suggested signs of resurgence, but the Hong Kong loss underlined that consistency still eludes her.
Sindhu, a former world champion, remains in search of her first title of the 2025 season. With major events like the China Open and the season-ending BWF World Tour Finals still ahead, the 29-year-old will be aiming to bounce back quickly.
Other Indian Results
It was a disappointing day overall for Indian shuttlers in Hong Kong:

Mixed doubles: India’s Dhruv Kapil and Tanisha Crasto were outplayed by Taiwan’s Chen Cheng Kuan and Hsu Yin-Hui, going down 16-21, 11-21 in 31 minutes.
Men’s singles: Rising star Ayush Shetty (World No. 31) is scheduled to face lower-ranked Taiwanese player Su Li Yang later in the day.
One bright spot came on Tuesday, when India’s top men’s doubles duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced with a comfortable win over Taiwan’s Chiu Hsiang Chieh and Wang Chi-Lin in their opening round.
