The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for Wenchi in the Bono Region, Kojo Frempong, has called on presidential aspirants and their supporters to prioritise the party’s unity and collective interest over personal ambitions as the party prepares for the 2026 flagbearership race.
Speaking at the Wenchi Methodist Cathedral during Kennedy Agyapong’s Unity Tour, Frempong urged delegates and party faithful to rally behind whoever emerges as flagbearer after the 31 January 2026 primaries. He cautioned against divisive politics and internal rancor, stressing that unity will be crucial if the party is to return to power in the 2028 general elections.
“This is the time for us to bury our differences and forgive each other. Let us refrain from insults and remain focused. The interest of the NPP must come first, because without unity, victory in 2028 will be difficult,” Frempong told delegates.
On his part, Kennedy Agyapong, who is on a nationwide tour to promote reconciliation within the party, pledged to prioritise the welfare of grassroots members should he lead the NPP into government. He expressed dissatisfaction with how the party’s eight years in power treated its base, particularly in terms of job opportunities.
“I will not allow the suffering of our grassroots to continue. If the NPP is given another mandate and I lead, I will make sure those who sacrifice for the party benefit from it,” Agyapong declared.
He further warned that under his leadership, the next Chief Executive Officer of the Bui Power Authority would be dismissed if they failed to employ more indigenes from the Bono Region.
The Wenchi gathering formed part of Agyapong’s efforts to heal divisions within the party following the heated flagbearer primaries. Party leaders and supporters in the constituency pledged their commitment to working together to secure victory in the 2028 elections.
