Pursuit from Owasso to Kansas leads to many injuires

Owasso police are seeking information related to what began as a report of assault and battery with a deadly weapon to a multi-agency pursuit of a vehicle north into Kansas, which eventually crashed into another vehicle, resulting in multiple serious injuries.
The chain of events began about 4 p.m. Friday, when Owasso police responded to a larceny call at a local retailer, “however when an officer attempted to apprehend one of the suspects, who was at the time attempting to enter and be seated inside their vehicle, the driver of that vehicle sped away striking and dragging the officer. That officer sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized,” Owasso police said in a news release.
The vehicle pursuit, by several other Owasso officers entered U.S. 169, “first traveling southbound, then the suspects conducted a U-turn through the median and fled northbound. Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in or assisted with this pursuit once it left Owasso, including the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, who took over the pursuit in order to attempt multiple Tactical Vehicle Interventions, however none of the attempts were successful,” the release said.

“The pursuit traveled northbound through the communities of Collinsville, Oologah, Talala, Nowata, South Coffeeville, Oklahoma and eventually entered Coffeeville, Kansas. Speeds in the unpopulated areas of U.S. 169 reached over 100 mph, although speeds were lower in some of those communities due to traffic signals, curves, and other vehicular traffic.
“Once crossing into Kansas the Kansas Highway Patrol took over this pursuit,” the release said.
“This pursuit ended when the suspects struck an SUV in Coffeeville, at which time both vehicles involved careened off the roadway and overturned. Everyone involved in this collision suffered serious injuries, suspects and victims alike. The once released from the hospital, Kansas Highway Patrol took the suspects into custody and are working the collision that occurred.
“These suspects are currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail in Kansas and will face a host of criminal (complaints) in both Kansas and Oklahoma,” the release said.
Owasso Police asked that “anyone that has dashcam or any kind of video footage of this pursuit to please reach out to the Owasso Police Department tipline at 918-272-COPS (2677). We’d like to speak to you and hopefully obtain footage. If you were forced off the roadway, suffered any damage or felt you were victimized by these dangerous suspects, please reach out also. The injured Owasso Police Officer in this incident has since been released from the hospital and is recovering. Our thoughts at this time are with the victims of the collision, their families and all those affected.”
