Punjabi-Canadian Businessman Darshan Singh Sahsi Shot Dead Outside His Home In Canada

Prominent Punjabi-Canadian businessman Darshan Singh Sahsi, 68, was shot dead outside his residence in Abbotsford, British Columbia, on Monday morning. Sahsi, originally from Rajgarh village near Doraha in Ludhiana district, was the president of Canam International, one of the world’s leading clothing recycling companies. According to the Abbotsford Police Department, the shooting occurred around 9:22 am. Preliminary investigations point to the fact that the attacker was waiting in a car parked near the victim’s home. As Sahsi entered his vehicle, the suspect opened fire before speeding away. Police officers responding to the incident found the 68-year-old businessman inside his car with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical assistance from first responders, Sahsi succumbed to his injuries. An investigation into the killing is underway, and police have urged witnesses or anyone with surveillance footage from the area to come forward. According to Canam Group’s official website, the company is recognised in over 40 countries for its transparent and sustainable business practices and has been an integral part of the global textile recycling supply chain since the early 1990s. Beyond his business success, Darshan Singh Sahsi was widely respected in community circles for his philanthropic work. A majority of his company’s employees were from Punjab, reflecting his continued connection to his roots. Sahsi also operated a business unit in Kandla, Gujarat, expanding Canam’s reach within India. Born into a farmer’s family, Sahsi migrated to Canada in 1991, where he initially worked in a series of odd jobs before buying shares in a struggling textile unit. Through perseverance and strategic vision, he transformed the failing business into one of the world’s foremost clothing recycling companies, earning recognition as a self-made entrepreneur and a pillar of the Punjabi diaspora in Canada
