Punjab horror: US Woman, 71, Burnt To Death By NRI Groom After Coming To Ludhiana For Marriage

A 71-year-old US woman was allegedly killed after she arrived in India from Seattle to marry a 75-year-old UK-based NRI man, according to the police. Rupinder Kaur Pandher was burnt to death by Charanjit Singh Grewal in Ludhiana, Punjab. The woman came to India at the invitation of Charanjit Singh, who called her for the marriage. The incident happened in July this year, but came to light recently after the police named suspects in an FIR filed over the woman’s disappearance. The police, cited by the PTI, said that it was Grewal who planned the whole murder. Police added that Pandher’s sister, Kamal Kaur Khairah, got suspicious after her mobile phone was found switched off in July 2024. Khairah informed the US Embassy in New Delhi by July 28. The embassy officials then informed the local police of the matter to facilitate an investigation. However, after months of waiting, Khairah’s family received the news of her death last week. The police have arrested Sukhjeet Singh Monu of Malha Patti, who confessed to killing the US woman at his home and burning the body in a storeroom on July 12 at Charanjit’s orders. Charanjit promised Sukhjeet Rs 50 lakh to kill his bride Pandher.
