LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Friday approved a new admission policy for medical and dental colleges across the province.
Under the policy, passing the MDCAT test is mandatory for entry into government institutions. For overseas Pakistanis’ children, the MDCAT fee has been fixed at $10,000.
For private colleges, once a candidate’s name appears on the merit list, one-third of the tuition fee will be deposited with the University of Health Sciences (UHS). After the final list, UHS will transfer the funds to the respective college, while students will pay the balance directly.
The meeting also decided that trainee doctors completing postgraduate training in private hospitals will be sent for specialization in related departments of private colleges to meet the demand for specialists.
Maryam Nawaz termed the first successful angioplasty at Sahiwal Cardiac Centre a milestone and directed authorities to ensure transparent treatment at Mayo Hospital’s Ablation Centre while prioritizing cancer patients.
She added that new medical blocks will be set up in public universities instead of building new colleges and instructed expedited work on Nawaz Sharif Medical City.
