Pune on Yellow Alert Today for Rain: Check Roads to Watch Out for Waterlogging During Peak Traffic

Pune: As October draws to a close, Pune residents woke up to cloudy skies and light showers on Thursday morning, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) placing the city under a yellow alert for rain. The showers are expected to continue through the day, potentially affecting morning and evening rush hours across several key routes in the city. Light Rain, Misty Morning in ShivajinagarAccording to IMD’s Pune-Shivajinagar observatory, the city recorded light rainfall of 0.2 mm between Wednesday and Thursday morning. The maximum temperature settled at 29.2 degrees Celsius, about 2 degrees Celsius below normal, while the minimum temperature was 19.5 degrees Celsius. With humidity levels hovering between 75% and 98%, misty conditions prevailed through the early hours. The day began with light drizzle in parts of Shivajinagar, Pashan, and Kothrud, creating slippery stretches and slow-moving traffic during the morning rush. Winds are expected to remain calm, and sunset is forecast at 6:03 pm, followed by moonrise at 2:19 pm. Pune Weekend Forecast: Clearer Skies Ahead The IMD’s seven-day forecast suggests that Pune may see an improvement in weather conditions from Friday onwards. Skies are expected to gradually clear, with only partial cloud cover during the afternoons and evenings. Temperatures will rise slightly, reaching around 31–32 degrees Celsius by the weekend, while humidity is expected to remain steady between 75% and 85%. No weather warnings have been issued for the coming days, indicating a return to drier and sunnier conditions as November begins. Pune Commuter Advisory: Areas Prone to Waterlogging With light rain expected through the day, commuters are advised to plan their routes carefully, especially during evening peak hours. Roads near Jangli Maharaj Road, Senapati Bapat Road, Karve Road, and FC Road are known to face minor waterlogging and congestion during showers. Motorists are urged to maintain caution while driving through underpasses and low-lying areas such as University Road, Nal Stop, and Bund Garden, where puddles tend to form quickly. While Pune’s rainfall today is not expected to be severe, the brief wet spell marks the last leg of post-monsoon showers before the city transitions to cooler November weather. Residents are advised to carry umbrellas, allow extra travel time, and keep an eye on IMD’s local updates through the day.
