Pune: What began as a relaxing beach holiday for Aundh-based businessman Abhijit Bhosle ended in a hospital bed after a mid-air medical emergency on a SpiceJet flight from Goa to Pune. Bhosle, seated in 9C of flight SG-1080, fell ill shortly after consuming a soft drink purchased from the cabin crew. The incident occurred about 20 minutes after take-off, when refreshments were being served, as per a report by TOI. After sipping the beverage, Bhosle began to feel irritation in his throat, which was soon followed by severe stomach pain, as per a report by TOI. His two friends, Mahesh Gupta and Raj Kumar Agarwal, who were travelling with him, checked the can and claimed to have discovered metal shards inside. They attempted to retain the can as evidence, but the crew reportedly did not allow them to keep it. As Bhosle’s condition worsened, the crew arranged medical assistance. When the flight landed in Pune around 7.50 pm, an ambulance was waiting to take him to Ruby Hall Clinic near Pune station. He underwent X-rays and other tests and was discharged after three hours of treatment. Doctors have advised further medical follow-up in the coming days. Meanwhile, a formal complaint regarding the contaminated drink was filed with SpiceJet at the airport. The airline has not issued a statement on the matter.
