Pumpkin giveaway planned at Saginaw Food Club & Kitchen

SAGINAW, MI — Organizers with the planned Saginaw Food Club & Kitchen will distribute a truckload of pumpkins Friday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 310 Meredith, accepting donations to support its upcoming grocery store concept.
Organizers said attendees can turn off Washington onto Holden and plan to exit off Meredith. The giveaway will continue until supplies last.
The event provides an opportunity for the community and potential food club members to see progress at the club’s construction site and interact with organizers working to address Saginaw’s food deserts and food insecurity issues, organizers said.
The Saginaw Community Food Club & Kitchen, under construction at 310 Meredith St., near MyMichigan Medical Center Saginaw, is a planned nonprofit, membership-based grocery store aimed at reducing hunger, improving food access, and bettering the health of residents, particularly those in food deserts.
Organizers said they expect to open the site next year, although officials last month said they need an additional $1.5 million in funds to make it happen.
