A MUCH-loved pub in a Scottish town has been named as one of the best boozers in the UK for its high-quality beer. The Wheatsheaf Inn, in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, was praised for the quality of its real ale by experts. The Wetherspoon pub, located on Portland Street, has been hailed by visitors for its good food at affordable prices as well as its great atmosphere. And now it has been listed among the best in Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA)’s The Good Beer Guide 2026. This is the best-selling beer and pub guide in the UK and often lists the best places for locals to go. CAMRA’s local branch members made regular trips to the boozer to check the quality of the real ales that it has on offer. And after being impressed by their visits, they chose to name it in their guide, according to The Daily Record. The experts also considered other factors, including the atmosphere, customer service and the interior décor. A CAMRA spokesman said: “The Wheatsheaf Inn deserves its place in The Good Beer Guide 2026. “It is our belief that if a licensee serves an excellent pint of real ale, then everything else in the pub, including customer service, quality of food and atmosphere, are likely to be of an equally high standard.” The pub’s manager, Louise Ritchie, said the team were “delighted” to be recognised for it’s real ale. She said: “I am delighted that The Wheatsheaf Inn has been recognised for the quality of its real ales by CAMRA members. “We offer our customers an excellent range of real ales at all times. “Including those from regional brewers and microbrewers, as well as hosting our own beer festivals. “Staff at the pub work hard to ensure that the real ales on offer are kept in first-class condition at all times. “And the pub’s inclusion in the guide highlights this.”
