Providence and home-health care provider Compassus have finalized plans to provide home health, hospice, palliative care and personal home care services to multiple California regions, including Sonoma and Napa counties. California becomes the second of the three-phase joint venture. The first, announced March 3, includes Alaska, Texas and Washington. The third phase, in Oregon, is still pending regulatory review and approval in that state, according to Providence and Compassus. Under the agreement, Compassus will manage operations for all locations of the combined entity, called Providence at Home with Compassus. The two organizations first announced the partnership in October 2024, the Business Journal previously reported. According to both entities, Providence at Home with Compassus was formed to address growing demand, reduce health care costs and respond to workforce challenges, while establishing a foundation for future phases of home-based health care. In early July, approximately 120 Providence hospice workers in Sonoma County held a two-day strike to protest the planned partnership with the private equity firm, citing concern over future patient care. The hospice workers and Providence have been negotiating their first contract with Providence for the past two years. The California joint venture between Brentwood, Tennessee-based Compassus and Providence, finalized Oct. 1, includes 10 home health, one personal home care, six hospice and two community-based palliative care locations, according to the Oct. 30 announcement. In Napa, there are two Providence at Home with Compassus facilities: a home health location at 980 Trancas St., Suite 9; and a hospice site at 414 S. Jefferson St. In Santa Rosa, there is a home health location at 411 College Ave., and a hospice location at 439 College Ave. There also is a hospice facility in Petaluma, at 416 Payran St. “This next phase of our joint venture with Compassus is another step toward transforming how care is delivered across our communities,” said Terri Warren, chief of community services at Providence, based in Renton, Washington. Compassus CEO Mike Asselta, said, “We see this as a long-term relationship grounded in shared values.” Compassus’s home health services are available in 33 states, according to the organization. Providence in Northern California operates a network of health care clinics and services, including four hospitals in the North Bay: Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Petaluma Valley Hospital, Healdsburg Hospital and Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa. In addition to California, the not-for-profit Providence provides health care services in Washington, Alaska, Montana, New Mexico, Texas and Oregon.
