Luca Williams-Barnett pens Tottenham Hotspur contract
Tottenham have tied down one of their brightest academy talents (h/t X), with Luca Williams-Barnett signing his first professional contract at the club. The attacking midfielder, who turned 17 earlier this week, has been on Spurs’ books since his Under-10s days and has built a strong reputation as one of the standout players in the youth setup.
Last season, while still technically a schoolboy, he became a key figure for the Under-18s. He scored eye-catching long-range goals against West Ham, Leicester City and Aston Villa, with the strike against Leicester voted the Under-18 Premier League Goal of the Season. His impact did not see itself limited to individual moments either. In the 2024/25 Under-17 Premier League Cup final against Charlton Athletic, he hit a hat-trick to help Spurs lift the trophy.
That form has continued as he stepped up the age groups. He recently bagged his first treble for the Under-21s during a 6-3 win away at Leicester, showing he can carry his output into a tougher environment. His development has clearly not gone unnoticed by the first-team staff. Williams-Barnett was on the senior bench four times last season before making his debut this year, coming on as a second-half substitute in the 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Doncaster Rovers at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Get in, Luca!
On the international scene, capped by England at every level between Under-15 and Under-18. which also says plenty about the regard he’s held in beyond his club. His style which is direct, technical, confident in possession and with an eye for goal fits the profile any team would look for in young creative players.
The Lilywhites have every reason to be optimistic about his pathway from here. Luca has consistently hit the markers expected of him at every stage and there’s no reason why he would continue to go on and exceed expecations at every step.
For now, the focus shall firmly remain continuing his development with the Under-21s. Building on the momentum he’s already created will help him grow even further. But given the trust shown in him so far, it would not be a surprise to see him feature more around the first team over the coming months.
