Prominent voices call for reform in TTD Donation Management amid irregularities

Prominent voices from across the country have expressed deep concern over the recent irregularities in the ‘Parakamani’ (donation counting) process at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), calling for accountability, transparency, and technological reform, at a special gathering here on Sunday. Telangana BJP president N. Ramachander Rao stated that the scandal has shaken the faith of millions of devotees nationwide. He warned that such incidents threaten public trust, spirituality, and devotion toward the temple. “This is not a minor issue — it’s a serious breach of faith,” he said, emphasising that returning stolen money does not absolve the crime under law. He called for a fully transparent counting process, from staff selection to CCTV surveillance, and urged the use of modern technology to prevent future lapses. Rao also commended TTD Board Member Bhanu Prakash for bringing the issue to public attention and demanded a comprehensive investigation to restore trust. Former High Court judge Justice L. Narasimha Reddy described the scandal as not just a criminal act but an attack on dharma. He called for strict action against the accused and a transparent inquiry. Ex-Chief Secretary L.V. Subrahmanyam advocated for modern technology and systematic oversight in TTD’s accounting system. Chilkur temple priest Rangarajan Swamy emphasised that the temple’s wealth belongs to the devotees and no individual has personal authority over it. He demanded that the ‘Parakamani’ counting be broadcast live for public viewing. Former CBI officer J.D. Lakshmi Narayana recommended implementing a public disclosure system for the utilisation of offerings, said a press release.
