Boghall butcher Paul Boyle has had his high street heroics applauded in the Scottish Parliament. The dedicated community businessman recently enjoyed taking part in a Celebration of Scotland Loves Local reception. Mr Boyle, of Boghall Butchers in Bathgate, was named as the High Street Hero for the Lothian region in the Scotland Loves Local Awards last month. The Holyrood event saw all of the winners and finalists in the awards congratulated by Public Finance Minister Ivan McKee. It shone a spotlight on community-led action which is making a difference across the country. Spearheaded by Scotland’s Towns Partnership (STP) and supported by the Scottish Government, Scotland Loves Local champions the critical difference of choosing local and supporting local businesses in building stronger, fairer, wealthier and more sustainable communities. Kimberley Guthrie, STP’s Chief Officer, said: “Through Scotland Loves Local this year, we have been celebrating the fact that it’s people who make places. The achievements of the winners and finalists in our awards are testament to that fact. “Through their vision, innovation and determination, they not only helping to create a new future not only for the places they call home and work, but inspiring communities the length and breadth of the country. “Community-led activity is at the forefront of positive change across Scotland. We have seen a real resurgence in that in recent years - and it’s critical for our economy that we keep that momentum going. Everyone can play their part in supporting that by choosing local.” Paul, who was accompanied at the celebration by wife Christine, is no stranger to awards success. Earlier this year, his kebab pie was crowned Supreme Champion at the British Pie Awards. He was awarded the High Street Hero accolade after judges heard about the trained chef’s success in growing the business while remaining loyal to its community - and its home in Margaret Avenue. They were told: “Paul and his team are very much people’s people. They enjoy the work and customer interaction. “The secret to his success lies heavily with the involvement of customers and community.” Don't miss the latest news from the West Lothian Courier.
