Priyanka Chopra Doesn't Help South Asians In Hollywood, Alleges TV Actress Sweta Keswani

In a candid revelation that has stirred debate across entertainment circles, actress Sweta Keswani, best known for her role in the popular TV series Ba, Bahu Aur Baby has made striking remarks about global star Priyanka Chopra Jonas. While acknowledging Priyanka’s phenomenal rise from Bollywood to Hollywood, Keswani claimed that the actress has not done much to support or uplift other South Asians in the American film industry. Speaking about representation in Hollywood, Keswani told a publication that although Priyanka’s achievements are “incredible and well-deserved”, her journey has been “largely self-serving”. Praising American-Indian writer and producer Mindy Kaling, Keswani said, “She (Priyanka) is not Mindy Kaling. She is not helping other South Asians. She is only helping herself, to be very honest. She only thinks about herself.” Drawing a sharp comparison between the two actresses, Keswani added that Kaling’s work stands out because she actively creates opportunities for others. “What Mindy Kaling is doing is amazing because she is actually writing, producing, and helping other South Asians advance in this business, which is already very tough for Asian women,” she remarked. Keswani also opened up about her own experiences in Hollywood, noting that even within the South Asian community, there exists a sense of exclusivity. “I think there are cliques everywhere. Some people like some people, some people call some people, and they form cliques. Unfortunately, I am not in any South Asian cliques,” she admitted. Before moving to the United States, Sweta Keswani was a household name in Indian television, appearing in acclaimed shows such as Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki and Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand. In Hollywood, she has featured in international productions like New Amsterdam, The Blacklist, Roar, As They Made Us, and The Beanie Bubble. She is also set to appear in an upcoming episode of Law & Order: SVU.
