Prithvi Shaw on Monday scored a 72-ball century for his new domestic team, Maharashtra, after joining the side earlier this year following a fruitful association with Mumbai. It was his maiden century for Maharashtra as they faced Chandigarh in a second-round match of the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. The 25-year-old started the season with a duck before hitting 75 against Kerala in Thiruvananthapuram to show some form. In the first dig of the ongoing contest in Chandigarh, he was out for eight before slamming a century — the 14th of his first-class career. This was also the joint-sixth fastest in Ranji Trophy history. Last season, Shaw lost his place in the Mumbai Ranji squad over fitness and disciplinary issues. He later sought a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to leave the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), which was granted in June this year. In his letter to MCA, Shaw wrote that he has been “presented with a promising opportunity to play professional cricket under another State Association”. Earlier, Shaw had hit the headlines after getting involved in a verbal altercation with former teammate Musheer Khan during a friendly red-ball match. Shaw had scored a century in the contest — 181 off 220 balls — and once dismissed, he charged towards Musheer as the pair exchanged words. However, Shaw went a step further as he grabbed the Mumbai cricketer’s collar and raised his bat before other players intervened. Shaw was reportedly subjected to intense sledging while batting and took exception to the send-off he was given upon being dismissed. Later, a clip of Shaw and Musheer having a chat went viral on social media with the two patching up following the heated exchange. In fact, another report claimed that Shaw apologised to Musheer. “Prithvi realised his mistake and approached Musheer and apologised to him. Prithvi told him that ‘I am like an elder brother to you.’ So all is well between the two,” The Times of India quoted a source as saying.
