Key Points Prince William shares how he and Kate balance parenting roles and responsibilities. They value open communication and providing real-world experiences for their children. Their parenting style is similar to that of the late Princess Diana. Prince William offered a rare glimpse into life at home with Kate Middleton, sharing how the royal couple relies on teamwork while raising their three children. The future King of the United Kingdom told Brazilian TV host Luciano Huck that while he and Kate usually work together when it comes to raising Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, one of them tends to carry a bit more of the load. William admitted, “School run most days, I mean, Catherine and I share it, but she probably does the bulk of it.” However, he says he contributes as well, with “play dates, taxi driver, sports days, matches, playing in the garden when I can.” As William prepares for his future role as King of the United Kingdom, his schedule is understandably hectic. Still, he remains an active and involved presence in his children’s lives. He and Kate navigate typical parenting challenges, from deciding whether their children should have phones to determining how much of the family’s personal struggles to share with them. View directly on Instagram William believes children shouldn’t be shielded from life’s challenges, but he emphasizes the importance of explaining difficult situations in an age-appropriate way that won’t overwhelm them. He told Huck, “Every family has its own difficulties and its own challenges. I think its very individual.” “It’s moment dependent on how you deal with those problems,” he continued. “We choose to communicate a lot more with our children.” He concluded that tactic has its “good things and its bad things,” and that sometimes you are “oversharing with your children when you shouldn’t. But most of the time, hiding stuff from them doesn’t work.” Prince William mirrors the parenting style of Princess Diana In 2022, PEOPLE Magazine reported that Princess Diana was more of a hands-on parent than previous royal mothers. Typically, the royal family employed nannies to regularly tend to their children, only seeing them briefly throughout the day as they dedicated themselves to their work for the crown. Diana regularly spent lots of time with Prince William and Prince Harry, exposing them to the world outside of Buckingham Palace to give them a well-rounded worldview. William and Kate Middleton have appeared to successfully merge their respective upbringings to create a balanced approach to parenting. Like Diana, both believe that their children should have real-world experiences, learn the art of responsibility, and understand that their actions should have consequences. In an interview with Eugene Levy for an episode of The Reluctant Traveler, the Prince of Wales admitted that “getting the balance of work and family life right is really important.” Per Business Insider, William said, “For me, the most important thing in my life is family, and everything is about the future and about if you don’t start the children off now with a happy, healthy, stable home, I feel you’re setting them up for a bit of a hard time and a fall.” Prince William has returned home to England after traveling to Rio de Janeiro for the 2025 Earthshot Prize ceremony.
