President Xi Calls for Unity at APEC

President Xi Jinping delivered a written address titled “Putting the Asia-Pacific at the Forefront of the Joint Endeavor for World Development and Prosperity” at the APEC CEO Summit held in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea, on October 31, 2025. Navigating Global Challenges with Shared Vision President Xi noted that the world is undergoing significant changes and facing new crossroads. He emphasized that the choices made today will shape the world’s future. He called for visionary leadership and collective responsibility to meet the expectations of the people in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. Stressing that humanity shares a common destiny, President Xi highlighted that fairness and justice promote peace and progress, while cooperation and multilateralism remain essential for addressing global challenges. China’s Commitment to Multilateralism Xi reaffirmed China’s firm support for the international order and genuine multilateralism. He cited initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilisation Initiative, and the Global Governance Initiative as examples of China’s contribution to global development. He announced that China will host APEC for the third time next year, pledging to deepen collaboration and promote lasting peace and growth across the region. Strengthening Peace, Connectivity, and Cooperation President Xi outlined four key priorities for the Asia-Pacific community. First, he called for safeguarding peace and stability by ensuring all nations, regardless of size or wealth, have equal participation in global affairs. Second, he encouraged openness and connectivity through strong support for a rules-based multilateral trading system and stable global supply chains. Third, he underscored the need for win-win cooperation that values diversity and mutual strengths. Fourth, he advocated for inclusiveness and shared prosperity by focusing on people-centred development, implementing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and closing economic gaps between nations. China’s Role as an Economic Engine Xi noted that China continues to be a major driver of global economic growth, contributing nearly 30 per cent to worldwide expansion during its 14th Five-Year Plan period, with an average growth rate of 5.5 per cent. He highlighted China’s efforts to maintain an open, fair, and innovative business environment. The country’s negative list for foreign investment now has only 29 items, with none in the manufacturing sector. China is expanding its services industry, fostering innovation, and accelerating its green transition. Xi emphasized that partnering with China means embracing opportunity, optimism, and a shared future. Encouraging Entrepreneurship and Innovation President Xi praised the Asia-Pacific business community as pioneers of progress, urging them to remain open-minded, innovative, and resilient. He expressed confidence that through collective effort, the region can achieve prosperity and contribute meaningfully to global peace and development.
