President of Uzbekistan reviews $140mn modernization of Namangan airport - Daryo.uz

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is currently visiting the Namangan region to review ongoing development projects and assess the living conditions of local residents.

At the heart of his visit was the Namangan Airport, where a $140mn modernization project is underway. The new three-story terminal, first announced during the president’s visit last year, is progressing rapidly.

The current airport’s capacity is insufficient for the growing number of tourists. Once completed, the new terminal will increase passenger throughput by 2.5 times. Modern facilities will include border control and visa departments, a business hall, shopping and dining outlets, a medical center, and duty-free shops.

In addition, a large cargo terminal is being constructed, capable of handling 50 tons of cargo per day and easily exports to 90 countries. The project aims to establish a unified cargo system for the Fergana Valley, boosting regional business, exports, and transit potential.

Namangan is expected to welcome 1.5mn foreign and over 2mn local tourists this year, with the export of services projected to reach $210,000. Exports from neighboring Andijan and Fergana regions are also on the rise.

The airport will feature advanced service equipment to accommodate aircraft of varying sizes, alongside a catering and refueling complex and other utility buildings. The new terminals are scheduled to open next year.

President Mirziyoyev also instructed the development of modern infrastructure around the airport, including hotels, shopping and entertainment complexes, parking, and service facilities, in line with global best practices.

The goal is to ensure that the airport provides all necessary amenities for travelers and supports the region’s growing economic and tourism potential. Follow Daryo’s official Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter pages to keep current on world news
