Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 24 September, within the framework of the anniversary session of the UN General Assembly, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received U.S. Congressman Trent Kelly, Chairman of the “Uzbekistan Caucus” in the House of Representatives, and Major General Bobby Ginn, Commander of the Mississippi National Guard.
The meeting focused on prospects for further expanding Uzbek-American strategic partnership, with particular attention to the development of interparliamentary dialogue.
It was noted with satisfaction that parliamentary contacts have been gaining momentum: representatives of both the Senate and House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress are making regular visits to Uzbekistan, the “Uzbekistan Caucus” is actively operating and expanding its membership, while the annual Uzbekistan Days in Congress have become an important platform for strengthening cooperation between the two legislatures.
Special emphasis was also placed on the growing trade, economic, and cultural-humanitarian ties with the U.S. state of Mississippi.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of continued support from Congress in strengthening the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States, as well as in ensuring the practical implementation of agreements reached at the highest level.
Following the talks, the sides agreed to organize an upcoming visit to Uzbekistan by a U.S. Congressional delegation along with a business mission from Mississippi.
