President Paul Kagame has arrived at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku, where he begins a 3-day official visit to Azerbaijan.
Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Rwanda were established on May 28, 2004. The Embassy of Rwanda in Turkey is also accredited in Azerbaijan.
On May 28-30, 2019, the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, paid an unofficial visit to Baku to watch the final game of the European Football League held in Baku.
In September 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with his Rwandan counterpart, Vincent Biruta, within the framework of the high-level week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
During the meeting, “Memorandum of understanding on political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda” and “Agreement between the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the government of the Republic of Rwanda on the exemption of diplomatic and service passport holders from the visa requirement” were signed.
Regarding bilateral relations between the two countries, it is necessary to identify new areas for cooperation, and in this regard, mutual visits of delegations and business groups are organized. (End)
