following US strikes
With a second bombing of a vessel by the United States allegedly belonging to Venezuelan narco-terrorists and threats by Venezuela that Guyana could face retaliatory action if Washington uses here as an attack base, President Irfaan Ali yesterday underscored both sovereignty and peace.
“Whilst our priority is to ensure that this region remains a zone of peace, we are also conscious of the impact of transnational crime, drug trafficking, and other forms of elicited illicit activities, and the impact it can have on our people, the region, and our economy here and the region,” the President yesterday said at his first press briefing since returning to office.
Ali said that his government is “continuously concerned about criminals using international waters or countries exclusive economic zone in destroying economies, destroying countries, destroying people.”
