Premier’s 5-day working visit to London to focus on education, economy, semiconductor tech

KUCHING, Sept 22: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has arrived in London on Sunday night (Sept 21) to begin a five-day working visit focusing on education, the economy, and semiconductor technology.
According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the visit is part of the Sarawak government’s efforts to strengthen the State’s position on the global stage, particularly in human capital development and fostering strategic collaborations with high-technology industries.
During his time in London, the Premier is scheduled to attend several key programmes, including a session with the London School of Economics (LSE) on Tuesday morning (Sept 23), followed by a working visit to Henley Business School in the afternoon.
On Wednesday (Sept 24), he will participate in the SMD Semiconductor programme at Microelectronics UK, which will feature the launch of new technology as well as the signing of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with industry partners from the United Kingdom and Europe.
As part of the programme, the Sarawak Premier is also scheduled to deliver a keynote address titled ‘Building the Integrated Silicon Longhouse: Sarawak Blueprint to Accelerate Global Investment & Industry Impact’ at ExCeL London.
The Premier’s working visit is expected to conclude on Thursday (Sept 25).
This initiative is anticipated to open more opportunities for collaboration between Sarawak and international partners in the fields of education, research, and technological innovation, in line with Sarawak’s aspiration to emerge as a regional semiconductor hub.
Also accompanying him on the visit is Sarawak Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki. — DayakDaily
