A Premier League footballer was reportedly threatened with a gun on a busy London street, seeing a top football agent arrested. The unnamed player, said to be £60million-rated and in his 20s, was allegedly targeted while walking late at night with a friend. Police were called to the incident at 11.14pm on September 6. A football agent, who represents an England international among other stars, was arrested last month on suspicion of brandishing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. It’s reported by The Sun that the suspect is also under investigation for allegedly blackmailing and making threats against the footballer’s friend. But he has not yet been charged with an offence. The player is unable to be named for legal reasons and is said to have escaped with his pal unharmed from the terrifying incident. Police are said to have arrived at the agent’s £2million Hertfordshire home two days later. He was bailed on September 9 with conditions that he did not contact the player. A source is quoted as saying in the article: “This was a terrifying incident and one which has sent shockwaves through the business side of football. “The player was understandably shaken up — to have threats made against you with a gun is shocking. He reported it right away. It was the right thing to do for his safety. “He has been supported by his friends and club and they all hope it will not impact his performances. “But there will be serious questions about why this happened, which the police are now trying to answer.” Police imposed a ban on the agent attending the player’s club training ground. He was also unable to go abroad until a bail variation was agreed by a judge at a magistrates’ court last month. It’s reported that the man asked for his passport back to leave the UK on pre-booked trips, and he must return it to police when he returns next month.
