Premier League Ace 'Threatened With a Gun in the Street' by Football Agent

An unnamed Premier League footballer – reportedly worth in the region of £60 million and in his 20s – has been left "shaken up" after being threatened with a gun on a packed street in London by a top football agent. According to reports, the latter was arrested a few days later following the incident, but he is yet to be charged with any offence. Police officers were called to the scene at 11:14pm on September 6 and the star, who hasn't been named by The Sun for legal reasons, and his friend managed to escape unscathed. Two days after the ace was shocked at gunpoint, the police visited the agent's £2 million-worth home in Hertfordshire to arrest him. He was given bail on September 9. A 31-year-old agent, who represents an England international through his agency, was detained last month on suspicion of brandishing the firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. Not only that, but the suspect is also under investigation for allegedly blackmailing and making threats against the friend of the footballer, who also managed to leave the incident unharmed. Upon being granted bail, the agent has been informed that no contact with the footballer is allowed, while officers have also imposed a ban on the agent travelling to the player's club training ground. As of early November, the Premier League team in question has remained anonymous – as has the identity of the player. A source, as revealed by The Sun, said: "This was a terrifying incident and one which has sent shockwaves through the business side of football. The player was understandably shaken up – to have threats made against you with a gun is shocking. He reported it right away. It was the right thing to do for his safety." The source, who is close to the situation, also insisted the player's club – and his close pals – are doing all they can to support him in a time of need. "He has been supported by his friends and club, and they all hope it will not impact his performances," they said before adding, "But there will be serious questions about why this happened, which the police are now trying to answer." The football agent has also been told that he was unable to travel abroad until a bail variation was agreed by a judge at a magistrates' court last month. He had already planned a number of pre-booked trips and, therefore, he had requested his passport back so that he could leave the United Kingdom. They obliged, but it is understood the man – who is reportedly of a similarly high profile to the footballer who was threatened – will need to return it to the police when he returns next month. The Metropolitan Police confirmed to The Sun that they were investigating the incident in depth.
