Predictions, picks, best bets for Frozen Frenzy

All 32 teams in the NHL are in action Tuesday night for the league’s annual “Frozen Frenzy.” The slate gets started with a 6 p.m. ET puck drop between the Flames and Maple Leafs, and continues until the wee hours of Wednesday morning for East Coasters. With 16 games on the docket, there’s bound to be plenty of betting value, so we plucked out our four favorite bets for the “Frenzy.” NHL ‘Frozen Frenzy’ picks, best bets All odds via FanDuel. Flames (+154) over Maple Leafs (6 p.m. ET) The Flames are off to an abysmal start, but they got off the mat with a win over the Rangers on Saturday night. That result ended an eight-game winless streak (0-7-1), and should settle Calgary ahead of a trip East to take on the Maple Leafs. Toronto has also struggled to find its level through the first three weeks of the season, trading wins and losses, while looking pretty ordinary the entire time. With Mitch Marner in Vegas, the Leafs have yet to find any offensive rhythm and their defense is giving up more chances on the rush than any other team. The Leafs are banged up, uninspiring on offense and leaky on defense. They’re a vulnerable favorite Tuesday night. Betting on the NHL? With an experienced core, a strong blueline and the game’s best goaltender, the Jets have become a picture of consistency in the last calendar year. The opposite is true of the Minnesota Wild, who are getting absolutely pummeled in their own zone this season. Only two teams allow more high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes than the Wild. There are some teams that can survive that kind of defensive ineptitude, but Minnesota is not built that way. There is scoring power at the top of the lineup with Kirill Kaprizov, Matt Boldy and Zeev Buium, but the depth leaves a lot to be desired. Minnesota is a fade candidate until it gets itself sorted out defensively. New Jersey Devils (+136) over Colorado Avalanche (9:10 p.m. ET) The Devils get a heat-check Tuesday night in Colorado. New Jersey has won eight in a row since dropping its season-opener, and it’s not like the Devils are just beating up on also-rans. They have defeated Tampa Bay, Florida, Edmonton, Toronto and Colorado during this streak. The Avs will get a chance for immediate revenge Tuesday, and they’re right to be favored, but this line looks pretty appealing considering the Devils’ form and their ability to keep pace with the Avs. Getting the hottest team in hockey at +136 odds seems like a good bet. Betting on the NHL? Check out the best NHL betting sites Read our expert guide on how to bet on the NHL San Jose Sharks (+176) over the Los Angeles Kings (11:10 p.m. ET) We’ll put a bow on the “Frozen Frenzy” with a play on the affable San Jose Sharks. San Jose has been a scrappy group through October, and I believe their 2-5-2 record is a bit misleading. The Sharks still have plenty of work to do, especially defensively, but they’ve proven to be a tough out, especially on their recent four-game road swing that saw them scrap together a pair of wins against the Rangers and Wild. The Kings, meanwhile, have failed to impress through their first eight games and they just don’t produce enough scoring chances to warrant this kind of price, especially on the road.
