Post Courier Online Director attends Leadership Program in Australia

Post Courier Online Digital Director Mathew Vari is attending the inaugural ABC International Development Media Executive Leadership Program in Sydney, Australia.

The four-day program, running from September 19 to 22, 2025, was developed in partnership with the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) at the University of New South Wales. It is designed to address the unique contexts and common challenges faced by media organizations and leaders across the Indo-Pacific region.

The program’s curriculum focuses on key topics such as strategic leadership, organizational management, sustainability, business and financial acumen, and future-focused thinking, all framed within a public interest media context.

Vari described his attendance as an “unexpected privilege,” stating, “I will make the most of it to ensure my organization gains the most out of it, mainly the online platform that is now venturing deeper into the opportunities of a greater wider global audience.”

He further emphasized the dual role of media organizations, explaining, “While the mainstream press has a vital role to play in disseminating information to the masses, one must remember that we are also businesses that employ Papua New Guineans.”

He highlighted the importance of business knowledge for sustainability, noting, “understanding and being aware of that business knowledge on what gets us through the bottom-line at the end of the day is what effectively keeps us flowing the resources on hand, and the potential to grow within our mandate to our audiences.”

Vari concluded by thanking both ABC International Development for the selection and his own organization for its support, saying the program “impacts not only our company, but the greater industry as a whole.”

The program’s organizers, AGSM and ABC International Development, extended a welcome to participants from Indonesia, Timor Leste, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Myanmar, and Tonga. They encouraged participants to share the wisdom from their homelands and learn together in a spirit of respect and understanding.

Mr Vari will attend the inaugural program with Executives from two other mainstream PNG media houses in NBC and Kalang Advertising Limited.
